After Esther became queen, her cousin Mordecai overheard a plot to kill the king.
Mordecai tells Esther who then tells the king. Even though Esther gave credit to Mordecai
for saving the king’s life, Mordecai’s actions go unrewarded. Haman, a high-ranking
offi cial, learns that Mordecai will not bow to him. Haman learns that Mordecai will not
bow to him because he is a Jew, and Jews do not bow to anyone except God. Haman
tells the king about this and convinces the king to kill all the Jews in the kingdom.
